Maggie Shields
I am a Senior Therapist with over twenty years experience with children, youth, couples, and adults.
My background has been in Health- Nursing and I lived and worked in London and have worked many years in the Health Sector- working in Intensive Care, Accident and Emergency and on the wards in Hospitals in London and Auckland.
I am Happy to work with all groups of people and work in a client- centred and person centred way, working holistically with empathy and with care.
I trained as a Counsellor in Auckland and over the years I have grown as a person because of my client’s, so the work as a therapist is very special and meaningful to me because of them.
I have invested in my Trauma Training over the years and have worked many years in Family and Domestic Violence, Sexual Abuse and Trauma and like Peter Levine’s work on the body/mind connection along with other experts in the field.
Attachment trauma is effected and often the ability to have or sustain healthy relationships can be a challenge and to form secure attachment’s with other’s after abuse/sexual abuse.
I work with respect and non-judgement, and am happy to work with all groups of people.
Working with victims of abuse and sexual violence is a privilege and I enjoy my ACC work with clients who have their own story to tell and experience the Shame that Sexual Abuse brings but also great courage in reaching out for help and support.
I am connected to the mind /body and sensory experience client’s often present with such as triggers, flashbacks and dreams, and dissociated states of self when working through trauma.
My interest is in assisting client’s with rage and anger and processing and working through their trauma to understand themselves better and to find peace, contentment and hopefully some closure. I work with respect, positive regard and empathy and non-judgement.
I welcome client’s and respect their courage seeking help and support.
